Diabetic foot issue, something all should know….

People with diabetes can develop many different foot problems.
Even seemingly small problems may eventually lead to serious complications. If you have a wound on your foot, you may not think the wound is big enough to ask your doctor about, but if you have diabetes you need to make your Dr aware of any foot wound. Nerve health and good circulation are critical for healthy feet and legs. Unfortunately, diabetes puts both in jeopardy, and can lead to the development of diabetic foot ulcers, which can lead to complications. Diabetic foot ulcers are wounds that can develop on the feet of people with diabetes. They are often difficult to heal and may become chronic in nature.

There are several reasons that wounds may not heal, but one major reason may be that over time high blood sugar levels can injure your blood vessels, which may result in decreased blood flow to the wound. Some great ways to prevent diabetes foot complications are keep your blood sugar levels in your target range. Protect your feet! Always wear properly fitting socks and shoes to prevent blisters and other injuries. Ask your doctor about special footwear to prevent any rubbing or pressure caused by foot deformities like bunions or hammertoes. Improve circulation by wiggling your toes and ankles several times a day. Exercise and eat a healthful diet.

Wash your feet daily in warm (not hot) water—always dry them well and keep your feet properly moisturized to prevent cracking. Check your feet daily for any abnormalities such as cuts, bruises, spots, blisters, or fungus. Use a mirror so you can see all parts of your feet. Do not try to treat abnormalities on your own! Let your doctor or wound care specialist help you with corns, calluses, or cuts that don’t heal. Have your feet professionally checked—just like your eyes and kidneys—at least once a year.

We are working on a new magazine that will be for diabetes, health, lifestyle and travel. I thought since the people dont really have a magazine that is not ran or funded by big pharma companies, they cant speak freely. We will be able to share the stories of the millions around the world and hear from some of the best in the business of health and wellness. The magazine will also be a window into the new TV show we are working on with the same name “Reversed” We will keep you posted, if you want to be in the magazine or contribute a story send us a note at Info@thepoorchef.com

The land down under and diabetes?

I had the amazing privilege to attend the IDF event, world congress in Australia. It has been a great time and a joy to be around people from around the world who have a passion for diabetes. Never would i have thought i would have been here for the diabetes cause and movement. I was able to sit in on many talks and speeches and film some great people for the documentary. I think getting a global outlook on diabetes and hearing the thoughts of those on the front line will bring a global outlook on diabetes. It is very sad at the end of the day that the people still need the information and education and the lack of funding seems to be key. The people with the most passion cant get the funds to reach or help the people who need it most. I think this will be a problem for some time to come. The time to act is now and i feel that if we come together we can help slow the tide. Here is a clip from a interview i did at the world congress. I am now ready to get back to the states and hit the road on the RV tour and wrap up the film. We have some great things going in Jamaica for diabetes as well and look forward to getting back to that. Enjoy and will post alot more in the next few days.

We had some great stops in Florida and now head to Atlanta and the Nashville and then a few other cities. We were all set to do CNN and then got the news about half hour before we were about to leave to head to CNN that the pres was doing a speech. We have met some unreal people and heard some stories that will just blow you away. Some of it has been very sad, the sad thing about diabetes is that the help is just not there, we aim to make a dent but its a up-hill battle. We were able to stop at a dialysis center and even the downtown library in Atlanta. What a joy it has been and the media has been showing us alot of love. Lots more to do but we keep fighting each day, its gonna be tuff going across the country as its not easy at all, driving and stopping at hotels is a challenge but one we are up for. We will keep you posted as we keep going on the road.

We are closing in our the 21st and the start of the RV tour

It looks ruff but its coming, in a few days we will hit the road for what i feel is a project that can truly save lives. The passion i have for this moves me each day and while we dont see all the people we affect we know that this needs to be done. We cant wait to hit the road and tell the stories and share the lives of some great people across the country. This has not been easy and was a fight to get this on the road but anything that is good is worth the fight and never easy.

We are so excited to have Heal Together apart of this exciting tour. This was born out of love for people and wanting to reach as many as we could to share passion and education. Each dream at times needs a great cast, and we are so happy to have Heal Together apart of this mission and journey, below is some info on them and the amazing work they are doing with wounds and diabetes.

HealTogether is a national awareness program dedicated to promoting proper foot care for people with diabetes, educating individuals about diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), and encouraging those with DFUs to talk to their doctors about seeing a wound care specialist.

HealTogether provides education and raises awareness about diabetic foot ulcers through outreach within the diabetes community.

Some of these activities include:

  • Providing educational resources to people with diabetes
  • Participating in local events within the diabetes community such as health fairs and industry conferences

Laying in the bed way to early to.be up. What a great experience and time i and we had. I feel I learned so much about the island but also about myself. At the core finding our true purpose is left in the hands of the most high. I plan on being closer to family and focusing on spiritual things more than work. I love the water and love the island vibes.. simple is the way for me. We have some great pics and more to share. I am also excited to get back and get my rv tour started. I cant wait to get it in the next week or so, I cant wait to hit the road. The many colors and smells and taste are truly amazing..
